About Eric Julius

Eric Julius is a multi talented cosmetologist and Barber who was born in Brooklyn, New York. He got into barbering when at a very young age of 14 he saw a lack in professionalism and talent, in an industry that was what he considered to be the core of all communities.

No matter where you are from the barbershop is as close as a relative to everyone and everything in your community, says Eric Julius. I was so connected to such an industry.

He learned about the problems that people face with their hair type and textures. He learned how amazing having hair made people feel and how dehumanizing and sad, not having hair, or having bad hair, from not being able to care of it, made people feel.

My mother had beautiful thick full hair. I can remember her stuffing me between her legs as she would braid mines, even funnier, two strand twisting my hair, which today is a very prominent technique and style widely used.

She took very good care of her hair at night wrapping it in silk cloth and always running a comb through it before she wrapped it. This technique was used to keep her hair in good condition when she slept.
40 years later this technique is still being used predominantly by women of color or multicultural genetics everywhere.

My mother did the same for me but me and my friends used a different process to nurture our hair. We would cut up old panty hose or stockings, which were made of some form of synthetic share thread. We used it to make the first wave caps of our era.

That was right about the time when hip-hop was beginning to get very popular. Waves and hip-hop ran hand and hand, some people wore their waves to the side and others to the front. There were so many hairstyles coming out every day, so many that it was hard to keep up or decide what you wanted.

I was on the forefront of the styles and fashion in the streets. Although I was born in Brooklyn I was mainly raised in Queens. I was so into fashion that if you ask any of the people who knew me or that I grew up with today, they called me, Gucci, laughs Eric’ Julius. I lived in almost every borough after my mother died. Being tossed to family member to family member only enhanced my observation of hair and fashion. I went into a lot of barbershops in different areas because of that tossing. I looked, listened and learned.

The funny thing is, I never really looked at doing hair as a talent. I looked at it more as a cure for sadness and a design for happiness. Eric’s mother died when he was a young teenager around 14. It was hard to evade the streets, but somehow by design and not default, courage, instincts and ambition.

Eric continued to strive for perfection with the same intent as he always had to help others.

Today he is the owner along with his wife that he met 27 years ago and went to cosmetology school with. They are the owners of Royal Cut Kings, a premium quality one stop shop for all hair types, located in Gaithersburg Kentlands, MD.

Together they have a total of 6 wonderful, amazing kids. 4 boys 2 girls. It was after hitting number one at their Royal Cut Kings shop in Gaithersburg Kentlands that they decided to further their ambition, experience, and talent in the hair care industry, by producing there very own hair care line. With so much hands on experience & knowledge it was inevitable.

Coming up with RCK hair and skin butter along with essential oils and beard balm products has clearly set them apart from any of their competitors. Our hair and skin butter are selling off the shelf on and offline, states Eric.

Our IG page speaks volume for our products and ingredients when it comes to performance consistency and restructuring, replenishing and designing all hair types.

They are now in the process of launching their shampoo and conditioner line along with reiterating their exclusive first to launch hair application that they originally launched in 2012 called the cutculator.

One of the first of its kind created to not only keep up with the condition of your scalp and haircuts, but to be able to communicate with your barber or hairstylist through dialect upon the app itself. You tell us what your hair is going through and we will tell you what products of ours you need to use.

This is just a tip of the iceberg, Eric says, holding back other unique features and ingredients of future products like a chef-creating a secret meal.
